Bill Perison Biography

Bill Perison is a composer, singer, pianist, producer, author, taijiquan teacher and photographer. As a composer and performer Bill recorded Coconut Tree, an album of original music and stories for children and has performed in Canada and the USA and been featured on CBC Radio. He composes for jazz ensembles and choral groups (most recently a commission for the Ottawa Children’s Choir 50th anniversary celebration May 2009) and has choral works published in the Choral Music Experience series by Boosey & Hawkes. Music production projects vary in range from jazz to contemplative.

His most recent recordings are an album of evocative solo piano improvisations, imaginings, released in May 2011 and Fun With Friends (for children) released Jan 2012

Bill works with performing artists to help them expand their creative and performance abilities by integrating his 25 years of Taijiquan with his musical knowledge.  He teaches relaxation and body/mind connection practices to conductors and choristers in classrooms and workshops such Dr. Doreen Rao’s Choral Music Experience Institute for Choral Teacher Education.

In 2005 he and Dr. Rao released Circle of Sound Voice Education, (Boosey & Hawkes) a book describing their contemplative approach to singing through Meditation, Movement and Vocalization.
